This morning called for something delicious, because for the first time since I can remember, I actually woke up starving. I'm not usually a breakfast girl, but today I was feeling a good old fashioned milkshake. Rather than absorbing all the calories of a chocolate malt, I opted for a fro-yo shake (thanks, Stew Leonard's Red Velvet!). Maybe not as rich, but definitely did the trick, and I even got a few wandering eyes this morning out on the town collecting some project supplies with my bright breakfast treat in tow.

Since picking up a few decorating tips and tricks from design-extraordinaire sisters: my aunt and mother, I've been dying to add a few of my own personal touches to the house. Needless to say, the only response to my decorating input comes from my mother, who insists that I wait until I have my own apartment to mess it up. Thanks, mom! Some of my latest and greatest delicate decorating discoveries?
For the simpler girl, compact roses in glass tumblers filled to the brim with water. These accents make beautiful centerpieces, especially if you plan on entertaining. Decorator beware, though: The water is sure to drown the roses sooner than later, so this type of decor should be fresh and prepared no longer than an hour before you need your pieces to shine.
A razzier designer may opt to place her flowers in shiny, gunmetal tumblers, or glittering metallic ones, and lay them on a mirrored perfume tray or reflective countertop. The colors will go nuts, reflecting off the mirrors, and would make for a spectacular illusion. I, as a matter of fact, have a similar display of flowers in my princess-inspired bathroom.
Bed, Bath & Beyond carries a set of multi-sized circular mirror stick-ons that look next to worthless in its packaging, but strategically placed on your wall, make for a chic, modern and ultra fun design.
And for my favorite, DIY project: I came across this out-of-control candelabra, and had the urge to make my own, immediately. The larger branch you can find, the better. A handful of taper candles and wax is all you need to complete this project. One by one, secure the candles to the branch with dabs of melted wax. Be sure that with each candle you secure, the branch is still able to balance the way you want it to. {This is probably the most challenging aspect of the project}
And voila! I mean, how cool? If you're feeling really artistic, spray paint parts of your branch in a metallic that will complement whatever room you want to boast your candelabra. You probably couldn't go wrong with a gunmetal or copper finish. Have fun!
