She was so sick of missing him. When was he finally going to man up and tell her what she wanted to hear? She was pretty sure she wasn't one of those delusional girls, holding onto the thought that one day he'd heroicly ride out of the green pastures on a stallion and rescue her from feeling like a miserable, lonely, pathetic girl.
She was sure Jake loved her back.
She'd made plans with Nate earlier in the week, and found herself avoiding his text messages, his phone calls. She'd made up excuse after excuse, and really didn't know why. She'd had a great time with him on their last date. Nate was perfect. Still, she felt so unsure of everything. Why wasn't it Jake calling her to plan a romantic evening? Why wasn't it Jake that was begging to see her after a twelve-hour workday? The phone chimed and vibrated in her hand. Four question marks appeared by Nate's name, but they were nothing compared to the question mark that was drilling a hole in her heart.
She played with a strand of her long blonde hair, the way she always did, and chewed a bit of her fingernail. "It's been a long day," she reluctantly pushed into the keypad. "I'm going to call it a night. Maybe another time." She knew Nate wasn't going to respond. He knew just as well as she that there wasn't going to be a next time, either. She flopped into bed. It was only eight o'clock, but she drifted off to sleep, and dreamt all night about the last conversation she'd had with Jake.
Beautiful picture. Love the lighting.
