This past weekend was spent, for the majority of the daytime, with my father, whose new underground, hipster-chic garage-turned-game hall in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, was the continual topic of conversation. He utilized a good chunk of my time assessing my level of hipster, asking my input for every vintage t-shirt he held up in my face (to be used as decoration around the arcade). When I told him they weren't so hipster, just hippy, he told me I didn't know what a hipster was, anyway. Although we had our fair share of spats over game room decor, I can't wait to actually see what he's put together, between the plush new pool table and vintage Zelda and Pacman games, shoot-out games, and pinball machines.
It got me planning ahead for my birthday (which is not until August, but...). While I normally celebrate more traditionally (think dance clubs and bars), ringing in twenty-three might be better spent with some of my favorite friends in a dreamcade atmosphere. I'm thinking vintage video arcade meets summertime carnival, complete with crazy pink and blue cotton candy jello shots, sea-salted carameltinis, handfuls of pigs-in-blankets and ranch-dressed popcorn clusters. Isn't it funny? The older I get, the more I find myself gravitating towards juvenile themes, but hey.
Psssst. If you're local and want to stop by the game room, you can contact
(718) 349-1167 (Far Better Towing) and inquire about the arcade.

haha this is a great post. It is hard to explain what a hipster is to the parents, isn't it? also must admit..I'm super amazed that you have vintage zelda!

My dad asked me what a hipster was once and he didn't really understand my description. I told him I'd just have to point one out when I saw one.
