Take a Walk in Your Shoes.

One fabulous Frosting Styles client suggested an interesting how-to topic I had a difficult time saying no to. How exactly does one walk in heels all the time without falling all over themselves? A pro-heel walker (just ask my cousin, who witnessed me sprint across the street in six-inchers), I probably could have run the mile in high school - in my Michael Kors' python skin sling backs. Of course, women wear heels for more practical reasons than exercising, but there are two types of skyscraper shoes you can wear daily without feeling like you are completely out of your comfort zone.

(Did I mention the amazing calf muscles that come from wearing heels all the time? So. worth. it)

If you spend a lot of time on your feet, but still want to look either glamorous or corporate appropriate, there's no question that espadrilles or chunky-heeled shoes are for you (at least, five of the seven days of the week). The more support the shoe gives your heel, the easier it is to walk (think Nike). Even so, if you're not used to parading around five inches taller than usual, walking in these kinds of shoes may feel a bit strange, but they are the easiest to become accustomed to.

Stilettos, also commonly referred to as why-did-I-wear-these-again?-today feet killers, should be reserved for your most impressive affairs, whether that be corporate events, important family gatherings or weekend nights-on-the-town. Unlike chunky heels, stilettos provide 0 support. If anything, they cause more wear and tear to your heel, which is relying on the support of one ultra thin six-inch pedestal. Ouch. However, if you find a pair of these that you cannot resist buying (my shoe rack boasts more pairs of stilettos than any other type of shoe), there is a tried and true technique to making the most of a hard night on your feet.

I like to runway walk, minus the runway strut. One foot in front of the other in wider than narrower steps (this also eases the pressure on the backs of your heels). Toes forward, your heels should be the last to hit the ground, and the wide stride allows that to happen more gracefully than abruptly. So technical, but seriously - so helpful.

Also: Thank you so much to all the girls who challenged me to the WWF MAC Viva Glam contest, and congratulations to Scarlet Rea who beat me by well over 100 points.
