The best part about having friends who are so completely different from you, is not only their unique perspective on the frivolities, but is hearing about the drastic differences in their social plans. My one friend in particular, Sarah, who you may remember if you caught her awesome hipster-esque posts on Afternoon Frosting here and here, offered to share with us her New Year's Eve plan all cozied up at home, for all the readers who are currently in the process of making their holiday decisions.
My New Year's Eve in Flannel
Last New Year's Eve, at the tender age of 22, way mayhem. There was champagne, a house by the beach, and a kiss at midnight with a floppy-haired blonde. But a lot can change in a year.
While my fellow Afternoon Frosting darlings are picking out their highest heels and sparkling mini-dresses for their New Year's fetes, I appear to have gone off the twenty-something deep end. The full extent of my New Year's Eve preparation consisted of partaking in Old Navy's jingle jammie sale. For $8 each, I acquired a pair of flannel plaid pants: red for my boyfriend, white and black for me (although, in my defense, my pair is adorned with gold ribbon).
Now you can roll your eyes at my lack of sparkle... I definitely do. But this New Year's Eve is the end to the most stressful year of my life. I lost many people I cared about, worked four jobs and an internship while balancing school, and somehow managed to keep my long distance relationship strong. I want to watch the ball drop in Times Square and promptly drag my butt to bed so I can get to work on time January first.
Maybe this is being an adult. Graduating college, finding a "real" job, and giving up the best days of the year to work, but I wouldn't change it. I have a bottle of sparkling wine and white polka dot champagne flutes from Pier 1 that I received as a graduation gift. I have flannel, a floppy-haired brunette and a guaranteed midnight kiss.
Maybe December thirty-first will be different, but for now, I wouldn't have my New Year's Eve any other way.
