Hipster Nation.

I've always been a closet nerd, so when I was introduced to an eclectic group of people who preferred thick-lense glasses to contacts, classic Nintendo games to Wii, and underground bands whose shows welcomed crowds of fifteen people in retro Brooklyn basements, I couldn't help but be a bit intrigued, and alas, confused. Are they trying to defy everything our millennial culture represents, or are they genuinely interested in this time-warped lifestyle?

I am, under no circumstances, a "normal" girl. If you knew me personally, you'd be able to attest to my off-cue quirks and high pitched giggle, my constant need to stand out, and my lust for perpetually evolving style, yet I couldn't in the least classify myself: a hipster. Did you just put out your cigarette and lay your Gameboy aside to gawk at the thought? Duh, but not because of my big blonde hair and affinity for sparkles, I hope (you see that? you people are just as stereotyped as I am). Part of me is utterly fascinated with all that being a hipster entails, and the other part wants to shrug it off as a fad style. Is hipsterism a sign of the times, or is it merely an expression of love for all things odd? Regardless, I'm all for anything weird, being cool.
