Winter Break 2.0

Preparing for my very own version of college winter break (let's just call this Winter Break 2.0), I'm taking this week off of any and all work to do a few of my favorite things, like pamper myself. Because I won't be able to get out of the house much (thank you blizzard), I've compiled a list of things keeping me happy and entertained at this very moment. Who says Mondays can't be fun?

There's almost nothing more mesmerizing than watching disco balls spin simultaneously, whether you're enjoying a few cocktails out on the town or in the confines of your bedroom. While the twenty-two year old me isn't so much into perusing Spencer's Gifts anymore, I am very glad that the sixteen-year old me picked out these sparkling, tacky bedroom decorations. One thing is for sure: These disco balls may not be permanent fixtures in my room anymore, but they certainly are fun to whip out for a Monday afternoon dance party. On my dance party playlist? Nelly ft. Kelly Hilson's Liv Tonight, Nicki Minaj's Superbass, Glee's version of (sung by Gwyneth Paltrow) Forget You and Rihanna's S&M.

My nails, rest assured, will be a stark white for New Year's Eve festivities, but for now, I figured a flashy transition from my eyeball and cupcake decorated nails would be some multi-color sparkle. I like Nabi's "Multi Glitter" (#093) on top of a nude pink "Julia" (#080). You can find a complete list of Nabi colors here.

My favorite downtime activity? Experimenting with makeup. Now that I have a complete set of eyeshadow brushes and have little need for my fingertips anymore, I can more steadily apply layers of shadow (also, my new favorite technique). My suggestion to you, if you feel like messing around with your eye colors? Start with basic, nude shades. The first time I tried rocking purples and pinks, it looked like I had an awful case of pink eye. My favorite eye makeup trick is applying a thin layer of vaseline to my lower lid. Much like photoshop, it smooths out your work and enhances what you're working with.

So this is kind of embarrassing, but I love locking the door, and pulling outfits that I could never wear to work. I have a huge collection of dresses that mostly collect dust in my closet, and today's snow day was the perfect excuse to pull out some of my cheaper, tackier ensembles, like my 2009 New Year's dress - a completely bedazzled, silver number that I got off the clearance rack at Forever 21 for $10.

What's on the agenda for your Winter Break 2.0?
